House Nightmare evokes the anxiety of having to leave the urban environment for rural or suburban areas. For some, the loss of anonymity creates a corresponding increase in the feeling of vulnerability as they find they are more accustomed to dense and active environments of cities. This can also be seen as the retraction to a smaller, tenuous and eroded existence as implied by the dream-like interruption of the 20th century style water cistern, with the shack's intimate, if humble, space.
